About:
Abby Buskirk is a current student at Clemson University pursuing her Master’s of Architecture. She graduated with her Bachelor of Art’s in Architecture from Clemson University in 2024. Her interest in architecture began with growing up in a historic small town, Beaufort, South Carolina, and her love of Legos. Now, outside of her interest in architecture, she enjoys traveling, reading, drawing, and building models.
Experience:
Intern Architect:
May 2023 - August 2023
Thomas and Denzinger Architects
I learned how to use Revit and more about the relationships between the architect, constructor, and customer. Specifically, I worked on a renovation project of a small house. This required going on site and measuring the specific dimensions of the house and then creating a digital model of the house. From there, I contributed ideas for renovations that could be made and continued to iterate the model as needed.
Beaufort, SC
June 2024 - August 2024
Hord Coplan Macht
I learned how to be more proficient in Revit and how architects work within a larger firm. I worked on some larger scale projects as well as quite a bit of local small scale projects on and around Hilton Head Island. I mainly worked on fixing red lines for projects and modeling in Revit at this job.

Teaching Assistant:
Freshman Studios
August 2024 - May 2025 + August 2025 - December 2026
In this role, I learned how to teach students and be a mentor to these young students looking to get into the role of architecture. By working with freshman, I was tasked with taking a leadership role and trying to ensure that students who may have never done anything architectural could understand the basic fundamentals. Aside from learning to teach, this job involved grading and reviewing the students’ work, as well as, giving constant feedback and helping students learn various software.

Research Assistant:
May 2025 - August 2025
Textile Formed Concrete Column
In this role, I learned more about how to conduct research and grew my knowledge of concrete. Specifically, I was tasked with creating the forms to hold the knit structure of the column and perfecting the mix ratios of the concrete materials. I also was given the task to design a form to hold the knit structure of a cylinder test for compression testing. These tasks were highly applicable to architectural design due to the work in fields of detailing for the framing and molds, as well as, designing for assembly, moisture management, and reusability.

This required multitasking of managing multiple types of equipment in terms of maintenance and cleaning. It also requires an understanding of how digital fabrication works and how to problem solve errors in the file set up or machinery.
